2024: The Year of V, W, X, Y, and Z for LOOF Cat Names
To simplify cat registration, the LOOF introduced the ‘one year, one letter’ rule in 1972. Each year is linked to a letter, and every cat born that year must have a name starting with it.
Initially, six letters – K, Q, W, X, Y, and Z – were excluded from the system, but they were reinstated in 2014. K was paired with J, Q with P, and the remaining four joined V, making 2024 the year of V, W, X, Y, and Z.
Therefore, every male or female cat born in 2024 and registered with LOOF must have a name beginning with one of these letters.
